Frequently asked questions

What does the PestOff Starling Proof Cage do?

It fits over a Roamwild PestOff feeder and stops starlings, magpies, jackdaws, parakeets and even deer feeding from it, while small songbirds pass through the cage and feed freely.

Which feeders does it fit?

It is compatible with all Roamwild PestOff feeders. The feeder is sold separately.

Can small birds still feed with the cage on?

Yes. The cage spacing lets songbirds such as tits, finches and robins through while keeping larger birds out.

What is it made of and how big is it?

It is an all-metal cage measuring 33 × 33 × 15.5 cm.

Is it easy to fit and remove?

Yes. It installs easily over the feeder and can be taken off again whenever you need.

Does it stop squirrels too?

Its job is blocking starlings and large birds; the PestOff feeder's own baffles and spring-loaded ports handle squirrels.

The cage slips off the metal collar and rests on the plastic tube

ease or ordering, easy to fit, does what it says

A good strong feeder. However I was disappointed to find that it doesn’t fend off our jackdaws who just divebomb it, flapping vigorously and soon empty it. I have had to buy the cages to deter them. Probably wouldn’t have bought them had I been aware of this.

This is the best (only) method I've found for effectively deterring squirrels and parakeets, hence 4 stars. It would be 5 but the construction is not robust and gives way after a few months. This is my second cage so obviously I'm taking the hit.

Just as I needed to keep bigger birds off especially magpies.

This is really working to keep the starlings off the seeds meant for the smaller birds and reduce the amount of seeds thrown onto the floor. Would definitely recommend for anyone having this problem!

Does what it says on the tin!
Our small birds love it and have grown in confidence. The cage keeps starlings and squirrels at bay ( they can be fed from different feeders). Our sunflower seeds last all week now instead of being cleared at dawn!

Squirrel lifts lid off tube and bites the plastic tube. Guard stops them though.

When I finally got them due to Evri not delivering without getting on there backs, They are great. the cages I have fixed on to my feeders. The pigeons can sit on them only. I have also attached a bucket to the bottom so that all the food the small birds throw out isnt on the floor for the pigeons. with luck pigeons will go else where. If only a couple left, I dont mind. then I might get other birds back in my garden. Spade still to use and charms are presents.

It’s very good at the moment I’ve stopped feeding seed and using fat which is covered by the cage brilliant

This should be offered in a number of colours to match the bird feeder I had to purchase this which was expensive because starlings were emptying it as quickly as I could fill it
Again was not told that starling can use this feeder considering how expensive this is to start for the prices you charge you could make the cage in matching colours not too much to ask is it

These keep out the pesky flocks of Starlings that I keep getting, frightening my little birds off. Now they can eat in piece knowing that it’s all for them!

I have bought two others in the past and bought another one for our third feeder. This one seems a little bigger than the others, but pleased with them all.

Starlings have been prevented from mobbing the feeder but are still happy with the suet blocks. Small birds have taken a few days to venture into the cage but are now whizzing in and out or sitting inside feeding.

The cage for the bottom of the bird feeder works perfectly. The small birds were unsure at first but now frequent the feeder more than they did previously and seem to be safer as they spend more time there

Just getting the little birds since attachment of the cage. Makes such a difference to seeing them feed. Shall be getting another cage fir the nugget feeder as the starlings are managing to eat & they make such a mess & startle the song birds with their fighting.
Very easy to fit to the feeder all the instructions are on the label. 5 minutes and the feeder’s ready to put up wherever in the garden. Well made & reasonably priced.

Cage fitted but the birds are not flocking to it,but to fair there isn't a lot of movement in the garden in this hot weather.

These feeders and cages have resolved my Paraqeet problem! The songbirds love the protection of the outer cage as of my two feeders, this one empties at least a third quicker than the one without the cage. My feeders with sunflower hearts are incredibly busy and bring me great joy.So busy that I source the seed in bulk 2x20kg at a time.

Had to purchase The Roamwild PestOff Starling Proof Cage Accessory because the Starlings were dominating our Roamwild PestOff Bird Feeder.

Customers having to purchase an accessory to allow the smaller garden birds to eat from the feeder without Starlings dominating the feeder.

In our opinion this shows there is a flaw in the design of the PestOff Bird Feeder when smaller garden birds are unable to feed from the Roamwild PestOff Bird Feeder due to Starlings dominating the feeder. Obviously Roamwild are well aware of this issue hence why customers are given the option to purchase the Roamwild PestOff Starlings Accessory.

Hi Elaine, thank you for sharing your feedback. As starlings are a protected UK species in decline, the feeder will slow them down but not stop them entirely. To stop feeding them you will need the cage accessory.

Unit was awkward to fit and required 2 people. Took the wee birds about 1 week before they started to use it. I love watching the pigeons trying to get into it......lol. Overall, a good piece of kit.

I was having trouble with a flock of starlings arriving every day, eating all the seed and pecking the little birds when they came near. The starling cage has made all the difference, and the little birds love it!

Brilliant cage! It instantly stopped the parakeets and starlings from raiding the seeds. The tits and sparrows can finally enjoy the seeds. Unfortunately, the robins are just too big for the holes in the cage and they cannot feed. It would be perfect if the holes size was 15 mm bigger to allow the robins to feed too. Nevertheless, a great product. Thank you, Michael

I fitted mine by mistake to the tube not the green metal, the video is too quick to follow so it is not quite as simple as stated, I think Roamwild could improve on this - but happily it doesn't matter, 4 or 5 little songbirds at a time immediately flew in, feeding in turns and love it.

The problem now is I only see it free of birds at dusk - so I am still filling up almost daily!!

A great purchase.
